Electronics sector in Malaysia expects to remain positive

The prospects of the electronics industry in Malaysia remains positive for the second half of the year, with more companies reinvesting and expanding capacities amid rising prices of inputs due to a grave shortfall.

New York-based Mini-Circuits Technologies Sdn Bhd Chairman and President, Datuk Seri Kelvin Kiew said the group was investing between RM40 million and RM50 million to increase its production floor space by 25,000 sq ft. to 150,000 sq ft. this year.

Mini-Circuits Technologies has invested RM700 million in its research cum manufacturing plant in Bayan Lepas in Penang for the production of radio frequency components used in telecommunication and wireless infrastructure.

Aemulus Corp Bhd, which manufactures analogue test modules, is investing RM7million this year to increase its production capacity as well as undertake research and development on the next generation of these modules in Penang, according to its Chief Executive Officer, Ng Sang Beng.

The company's products are used by its US clients to verify the functionality of telecommunications devices and computers.

P.I.E. Industrial Bhd Managing Director, Alvin Mui said the group was injecting more than RM20million to buy a new manufacturing facility in Seberang Prai, Penang as part of its expansion.

P.I.E, which has recently obtained the TUV certification that would enable it to venture into the production of solar panel cables, would avail its products to three solar panel manufacturers soon, Mui said.

P.I.E. which offers integrated electronic manufacturing services, including surface mount technology, LCD module assembly, mould and die fabrication, plastic injection, raw wire and cable manufacturing, cable assembly and wire-harness, expects stronger growth in the last two quarters of the year based on the 20% increase in orders in the second quarter.

Meanwhile, GUH Holdings Bhd Managing Director, Datuk Kenneth H'ng also expected the company to turn in significant growth in the second quarter year-on-year.

GUH focuses on the production of printed circuit boards used in consumer electronic products such as LED and LCD television sets.
